Native American Totem Pole Paper Craft

This is fun and simple Native American Totem Pole Craft made from a paper towel roll. Let your imagination go. A great scout craft, too.

Materials:

  • pictures or book about totem poles
  • paper towel roll
  • white paper
  • various colored scrap construction paper
  • scissors
  • glue
  • markers or crayons

Directions:

  1. Show pictures and discuss about the design and function of Native American totem poles. Let children draw freely on the white paper.
  2. Wrap and glue the white paper around the paper towel roll.
  3. Think about what animals or characters you want on your pole. Cut out little shapes from construction paper, eyes, mouths, noses, etc.
  4. Glue on the different face pieces.
  5. Cut a large pair of wings. Add paper feathers if you like and glue to the back of your pole. Allow everything to dry.

Variation:
Use brown paper or felt instead of white paper to wrap around the paper towel roll. It will give more of a wood look.
