I'm So Easy to Please
Just embrace me like you mean it. I'm not even all that concerned about the steps. Nice and simple or fast and frisky - either is fine with me. Even just walking.
But what really cooks my rice is the embrace. The kind where it's like a magical protective cloak you wrap around me, creating a safe, profound, tender, gentle, intimate, personal, playful, teasing place, just for me.
Anything more than that is just gravy.

Destiny
Sometimes you are born knowing what you want to be when you grow up.

from Shorpy's
Sometimes you spend your entire life testing one oatmeal bowl after another, declaring one too hot, one too cold, one too full, one is...
I like to think of life as a combination of either the express lane or the scenic tour. The latter of which is where I found Tango.

Guess What?
Actually, this video has nothing to do with the my news, except that it's so dang cute I had to post it.
For those of you in the Los Angeles area, Women of Faith book club will be discussing my book at their next meeting on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 7 pm!!! If you would like to be a part of all the excitement and discuss The Tao of Tango with the author (that would be me!!!), now is your chance. Please contact me privately to get location details. No cost for attending, but obviously, you must have read the book.

Welcome a Friend to the Blogosphere
We met when I first moved to LA almost 20 (???!!! )#(%*$)#@*$) years ago, and I consider her one of the true eccentrics of the world. Her observations on life in general, and our city in particular, have always been entertaining, keeping her cadre of friends on their collective expectant tippy-toes for the next "field trip".
Now she has finally put her talent for finding the obscure-but-entertaining into a blog, appropriately called XCentric LA, which I wholeheartedly encourage you to visit.
And if you really want a tango connection to this post, she was the one who dragged me to my very first, fateful milonga, ever.
Thank you Liane!!!

Where I'm At
I Stumbled Upon this beautiful image, here. It captured my heart. This is how I've been feeling lately, in a limbo facing a mysterious but beautiful place, full of light and possibility. I tenuously cling to delicate roots, but face the unknown with great expectation, moving from the dark into the brilliant light.
I've been here a while. It's time to move forward.

For
the sounds that stir my heart and fire up my imagination,
the taste of salty tears streaming from laughter,
the eye-bouncing crunch of Kettle Krinkle-cut salt and pepper potato chips,
the magic of hugs,
the miracle of tango,
the gift of love in all its magnificent incarnations,
and all the golden moments in my life...
I am grateful.

Milonguera
Sometimes, other people write what I'm thinking so much better (and funnier) than I do. I have been a big fan of Irene and Man Yung's Tango Blog for a while. Though named for them both, Irene is the sole (wickedly witty) blogger, although Man is her constant foil. I always look forward to her irreverent (and far too infrequent) posts.
Her latest, Milonguera, describes, in Man's best words, what he feels when he dances with someone considered to be a "milonguera" - a person whose sole purpose is to dance with and for their partner, without thinking/worrying about technique, hairstyle, CIFs, or even getting "everything right". But it is probably best to let you read all about it in Irene's inimitable style.
Being a milonguera has always been, and will always be my goal in Tango.
