Shapes Train Paper Craft

This is a simple craft for very little kids to reinforce math concepts of geometric shapes.

Materials:

  • 1 piece of white paper
  • 1 set of white paper shapes, rectangle, triangle, square, and two circles
  • 1 set of color construction paper shapes that match
  • glue
Directions:

  1. You will have to cut out all the shapes beforehand. The shapes need to be exact. This activity is about matching shapes, not developing fine motor skills with scissors.
  2. Show each shape and review the names together.
  3. Show the kids how to glue the white template shapes on the paper to make a train shape.
  4. Help them find the matching shapes from a dish and glue them on top to match.
  5. Display your math trains.
(floating jellyfish drawing not necessary)

Using the basic concept, you could adapt it to making other pictures with shapes; make a longer train, a castle, a car, a rocket, let your imagination run wild. You could make big shape pictures and use for a seasonal or unit display on the bulletin board or above the chalkboard.
