Summer Paper Clay Fish Craft

This is a cute summer fish craft from paper clay. Use interesting objects to make impressions in the clay.

Materials:

• paper clay
• paints
• interesting objects(shells, bottle caps, small toys, etc.)
• ribbon

Directions:

1. Mold your paper clay into a fish shape.
2. Press all kinds of objects into the clay to make impressions. If you press an object all the way through, remove from the hole and put on top. Press a hole in the top
3. Paint your fish. Allow to dry.
4. Tie a ribbon and hang up.

Father's Day Dad Rocks Paperweight Craft 1

This Father's Day "Dad Rocks" paperweight is made from salt dough and pebbles. A natural looking gift creation for Dad's special day.

Materials:

• 1/4 cup salt
• 1/2 cup flour
• 1/4 cup water
• bowl
• cookie sheet
• oven
• pea gravel or small pebbles

Directions:

1. Make salt dough by mixing  flour, salt, and water in a bowl. Add more flour as necessary. It shouldn't be too sticky or dry.
2. Mold salt dough with your hands, knead a few times. Place onto a cookie sheet.
3. Flatten out and press small stones into the salt dough that spell "Dad Rocks".
4. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
5. Place cookie sheet in oven and bake for 2-.5 hours until dry.
6. Remove cookie sheet from the oven and allow to cool completely before removing from the cookie sheet.
7. If desired, brush your paperweight with an acrylic sealer or coat sealer.

Mother's Day Plaster plaque Craft

This is a fabulous looking and unique Mother's Day craft using plaster of Paris and a pie plate.

Materials:

• plaster or Paris(you could also use paper clay)
• disposable pie plate
• large tray
• large cookie sheet or tray
• Pretty artificial flower
• craft jewels, dazzles, sequins, etc.

Directions:

1. Mix the plaster of Paris according to the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Place pie plate on the cookie tray. Press plaster into the pie plate.
3. Press a flower into the plaster.
4. Use craft jewels to outline "Mommy". Wet your finger and pick up the craft jewels to put in place. Use a toothpick to adjust as necessary.
5. Put tray in a quiet place to dry overnight.
6. Gently push out the plaster plaque and allow to dry on a cooling rack for another day or so.

Easy Flour Play Dough Recipe

Here's a very simple recipe for making play dough from water, flour, and salt. It's good if you need a lot of play dough and keep down the budget.

Materials:

• 3 cups of flour
• 1 1/2 cups of salt
• 3 cups of water
• 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil
• 1 Tablespoon of Cream of Tartar
• a few drops of food coloring

Directions:

1. Mix all ingredients in a large saucepan.
2. Cook over medium low het until the dough becomes very thick and comes off the sides of the pan.
3. Remove from heat and allow to cool until it can be handled.
4. Place on counter or waxed paper and kneed several times.
5. Store in an air tight container. I don't recommend storing in a plastic bag as it may stay too wet.

Easy Hand and Foot Print Craft

 Preserving your child's hand and foot prints are a quintessential craft. This star shaped craft is easy and looks great.

Materials:

• paper or molding clay
• pencil to make holes
• various colored tempura paints
• ribbon

Directions:

1. Flatten and shape a big piece of paper  or molding clay. I prefer paper clay because it's lighter and softer. This one looks like a star.
2. Poke two holes at the top.
3. Press the child's hand and then foot into the clay.
4. Paint the background one color, then the hand and foot prints different colors. Be careful not to mix the paints too much or it looks brown.  Allow to dry.
5. Later paint the back also for added strength.
6. Tie up with a ribbon.
7. Don't forget to put the date and child's name.

Mother and Baby Hand Print Clay Craft

 I was astonished at how beautiful this craft was. This is a great project to do together with mothers. It serves equally well as a Mother's Day or Valentine's Day craft.

Materials:

• paper or molding clay
• colorful marbles
• colorful beads
• shells
• glue
• ribbon

Directions:

1. Shape a large piece of clay into a heart shape. This one kind of looked like rabbit ears. Don't make it too thin, a little thicker is better.
2. Don't forget to make two holes at the top to hang up.
3. Mama presses her hand deep into the clay.
4. Baby or toddler first presses her hand into pink paint and then presses into mommy's hand print.
5. Decorate by putting liquid glue onto marbles, beads and shells and then pressing deep into the clay.
6. Allow to dry and then tie up with a ribbon to display.

It kind of has a beach theme to it, too. In the picture, you can see there are several beads glued into the shell like pearls. Just beautiful.

Easy Snowball Necklace Craft

 This was actually a craft from a  winter theme math lesson teaching patterns. The kids could string together blue pom poms and balls of paper clay into any repeating pattern they wanted. It's a cute necklace.

Materials:

• blue pom poms
• paper clay
• thread
• needle

Directions:

1. After teaching various kinds of simple patterns, give each child several blue pom poms and some paper clay.
2. Roll the paper clay into small balls.
3. Help the children to thread the pompoms and clay balls onto the thread with a needle in any pattern they choose.
4. Tie the ends of the thread to make the necklace.

It looks like a string of snow and ice balls. Patterns could include:
